ExperienceGraduate degrees in English Education from the University at Buffalo: Eng literature, grammar, research and writing instruction. My teaching experience includes: ENG 101 and ENG 201 (advanced English with a research and ESL component)
and graduate level Academic Writing Skills for the University at Buffalo, MFC Division. In addition to teaching at the college level for the University at Buffalo, I am an English tutor and editor.
I have been tutoring students and professionals on all levels, including: middle school, high school, undergraduate & graduate students, and ESL professionals. In fact, many of my clients either attend, teach, or do research for the University at Buffalo. I am a University at Buffalo English instructor, and some of the younger students I tutor are the children of my professional clients. Hence, my expertise and tutoring services are often referred to others, especially within the international community.
I have always enjoyed teaching; however, meeting with students one-on-one and tailoring lessons to meet their specific needs is something I thoroughly enjoy. Spending time with each student and witnessing their progress is very gratifying. By designing an individualized program for each student, I am able to focus on his or her specific learning style and educational/academic needs. My writing programs include essay writing: format, style, organization, grammar/mechanics, vocabulary, and so on, in various genres.
In addition to ESL tutoring in writing, I have been tutoring ESL individuals in improving English speaking and conversation skills. This includes preparation for the TOEFL exam.
My teaching experience includes: University at Buffalo ENG 101, ENG 201 and Academic Writing Skills instructor; D'Youville College writing instructor and English tutor; Erie Community College Learning Center tutor.

The individuals I have worked with have experienced a significant improvement in their writing and/or speaking abilities
Effective writing is an essential skill, not only for academic success in high school and college, but for career advancement in any professional field. As a college educator who has seen many freshmen struggle with writing, I was concerned that my own daughter would not be well prepared for college-level writing. Due to large class sizes, her talented and dedicated high school English teachers were not able to provide her with sufficient feedback on her writing. As a result of one-on-one writing coaching with Karen Szudzik, my daughter's writing style is now more clear, concise and accurate. The fact that my daughter improved her grade in English was appreciated, but not as much as the increase in her confidence, and her new recognition of writing as an ongoing process of revision and improvement, rather than as a "paper" to be turned in for a deadline. It is my pleasure to recommend Karen/Mrs. Szudzik to college or graduate school students seeking writing assistance, and to parents of high school students looking for a writing tutor for their child.

“I have been using Karen’s editorial and proofreading service for more than one year.
She is really experienced, responsible, and dependable. Usually I ask her help when I
finalize my papers such as conference proposals, dissertation chapters, and job search materials, which are crucial for my career.
And I believe my writing has improved by learning from her advice. As an ESL writer, I also appreciate that Karen gives me precise answers when I have grammatical questions."
Karen has been my ESL tutor and has been editing my papers for two semesters. The tutoring and editing I received was the best! Our sessions really made a big difference in my grades (A’s!!!). She is the best tutor ever.
Karen has been working with me on my dissertation for two years now. She is very knowledgeable, thorough and an excellent editor. I would recommend her services to anyone looking for a writing tutor or editor-proofreader.
My hobbies include reading, taking fitness classes, bicycling, and jewelry making.
I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends!!
